God Hears You, Even from the Depths

The connection
Jonah experiences in his deepest distress that God has not forgotten him and hears his prayer. In the New Testament, this experience is deepened: Christ sends us the Holy Spirit, who assists us in our weakness and carries our imperfect prayers before God, so that we are always heard.
Reflection
Yesterday, we saw that God does not let go of us, even in the midst of a storm. Today, we delve deeper into Jonah's experience: he is in the belly of the fish, at the lowest point of his despair, and he cries out to God. He feels cast out, yet the hope of God's temple, of God's presence, still flickers within him. It is this deep longing for God that keeps him alive and prevents the connection from breaking, even when everything around him is darkness.
You may also know such moments, when you feel abandoned by everything, when the burdens of life threaten to crush you. Perhaps it is worries, fears, or a deep sorrow that engulfs you. In such times, it can be difficult to find the right words to pray. Sometimes we feel too weak, too confused, to even formulate a prayer. But this is precisely where the Holy Spirit comes in.
The Spirit of God helps us in our weakness. He translates our groans, our unutterable feelings, into a prayer that God understands. You don't need to find perfect words. It is enough to turn to God with all your distress, all your longing. He hears not only the words, but also what lies beneath them – your heart. He is there, even when you think you are cast out, and He will lift you up again, just as He brought Jonah out of the depths.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You that You are a God who hears, even when I feel at my lowest point. Sometimes I lack the words to express my distress, or I feel too weak to pray. Yet I know Your Spirit is by my side and carries my groans before You. Help me today to trust that You see me, hear me, and do not leave me alone. Give me strength and hope, even when circumstances are difficult, and let me feel Your closeness. Amen.
