God's Book of Remembrance for the Faithful
«Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.»
«Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.»
The connection
In the Old Testament, God promises to record the faithful in a book of remembrance and to spare them on the day of His action. Jesus extends this promise to a deeper, more personal level. He assures us that God knows and values not only our deeds but our entire being, right down to every single hair on our heads. God's love is so comprehensive that it forgets nothing and considers every individual infinitely precious.
Reflection
Yesterday, we spoke about God's refining process, which leads us to a pure heart. Today, we look at the wonderful assurance that God does not forget us in all of this. In the quiet moments, when we might sometimes feel forgotten, Malachi assures us that our faithfulness and our conversations about God do not go unheard. A book of remembrance is kept, a record of all those who honour His name.
This ancient promise finds its deepest fulfilment in the words of Jesus. He takes away our fear of being forgotten by showing us that God's care extends to the smallest details. Not only our great deeds, but even the most insignificant aspects of our lives, like the number of hairs on our heads, are known to Him. You are not just a number, but a beloved child whose existence is of infinite value to God.
This certainty gives us courage for the day ahead. No matter what happens today, you are not alone and you are not forgotten. God has His eye on you; He knows you and He holds you fast. Let this unwavering love sustain you today and give you the freedom to live your life in His presence, knowing that you are forever inscribed in His heart and in His book of remembrance.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for this wonderful promise. It calms my heart to know that You know me, that You do not forget me, and that You keep a book of remembrance for all who honour Your name. Help me to live in this certainty today. Let me feel that I am of more value than many sparrows and that You know and love every detail of my life. Strengthen my faith, so that I may remain faithful to You even in hidden moments and find my worth in You. Amen.
The thread
After discussing God's refining yesterday, today we see that God does not forget us in this process, but records us in His book of remembrance. Tomorrow, we will explore how God's messenger prepares the way for this divine remembrance.
God does not forget you. You are infinitely precious in His eyes.
