The People Who Walked in Darkness Have Seen a Great Light
«The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.»

Let these verses remind you to take your own Bible in your hands, read them there again and, if you wish, continue a little further. Holding God's Word in your hands also gives you a precious moment away from the digital world.
Do not read the Bible in one long run, but passage by passage: one text, unhurried, asking the Holy Spirit for understanding. Whoever tries to swallow everything at once loses the overview. Whoever takes one passage each day will see the whole picture over time.
The connection
The Old Testament announces a light that will break through the darkness. John shows us that this promised light has come in Jesus Christ. He is not merely a light for a particular people, but for every person throughout the world.
Reflection
Yesterday, we saw that the peace Christ brings will have no end. This peace is part of the great light that has come into the world. Isaiah describes a people living in deep darkness, in the shadow of death. Perhaps you recognise such shadows in your own life – moments of uncertainty, fear, or sorrow.
John picks up this imagery and explains that Jesus Himself is this light. He is the true Light, which not only illuminates but enlightens every person. This means that His truth, His love, and His hope are intended for you personally. It is a light that doesn't just shine from the outside, but seeks to penetrate your innermost being.
Especially on Sunday, the day of resurrection, we are invited to recognise that this light is stronger than any darkness. It is an invitation to let yourself be enlightened by Him, to feel His warmth, and to accept His guidance for the coming week. Let this light illuminate your heart and your path today.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for this new day and for the light You have brought into the world in Jesus Christ. I ask You to enlighten my heart and my spirit today. Where there is darkness, let Your light shine. Where there is uncertainty, grant clarity. Help me to receive Your true light within me and to reflect it in this world. Guide me through this Sunday and the coming week in Your goodness and truth. Amen.
