Wisdom Builds – Folly Tears Down
«Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.»
«Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.»

Do not read the Bible in one long run, but passage by passage: one text, unhurried, asking the Holy Spirit for understanding. Whoever tries to swallow everything at once loses the overview. Whoever takes one passage each day will see the whole picture over time.
The connection
The Old Testament presents a fundamental distinction between wise building and foolish destruction. Christ deepens this understanding by connecting wisdom with obedience to His words. He makes it clear that true stability and an unshakeable life are only possible upon the foundation of His teaching, which transcends mere human cleverness and reveals divine love.
Reflection
Yesterday, we reflected on the wisdom that comes from above, manifesting in purity and peace. Today, we consider how this wisdom takes concrete form in our daily lives: it builds up, it creates permanence. Whether in our relationships, our work, or our deepest convictions – wise decisions are like the foundation of a house that withstands storms.
The Proverbs draw our attention to the fact that with our actions and words, we either build up or tear down. Sometimes, destruction happens not consciously, but through carelessness or a lack of insight. The Bible calls this folly. It is the opposite of wisdom and leads to a life that is fragile.
Jesus takes up this image and shows us the path to true stability. He says: whoever hears my words and acts upon them, builds on rock. This is not abstract theory, but lived faith in the small things. It is the decision to consciously choose love, truth, and justice today, knowing that therein lies the most secure foundation for our lives.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your wisdom, which you grant us through your Word. I pray that you would open my eyes to the areas in my life where I unconsciously tear down instead of building up. Help me today to be a wise builder, who places my decisions and actions upon the foundation of your love and your commandments. May my words and deeds bear fruit and become a blessing to those around me. Grant me the strength to follow your words, so that my house may stand firm, no matter what storm may come. Amen.
