God's Judgment is Eternal, as is His Love
«I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.»
«For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: that all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.»
Let these verses remind you to take your own Bible in your hands, read them there again and, if you wish, continue a little further. Holding God's Word in your hands also gives you a precious moment away from the digital world.
Do not read the Bible in one long run, but passage by passage: one text, unhurried, asking the Holy Spirit for understanding. Whoever tries to swallow everything at once loses the overview. Whoever takes one passage each day will see the whole picture over time.
The connection
In the Old Testament, the certainty of divine judgment serves as a call to righteousness in the face of transience. Christ reveals that this judgment is not merely an act of reckoning, but an unveiling of the Father's love, which He Himself, as the Son, carries out. He judges not to condemn, but to reveal who God is and who humanity can be in His love.
Reflection
Yesterday, we considered how our hearts are drawn to the treasure we accumulate. Today, we look at a deeper truth: everything we do, every endeavour, will one day stand before God. This might sound unsettling, yet the Preacher sees in it an order that counteracts the chaos of transience. There is an authority that stands above all else.
And this authority is not a distant, unapproachable judge. Jesus reveals to us that the Father has committed all judgment into His hands. Why? So that we might honour Him, even as we honour the Father. Jesus' judgment is inextricably linked to His love, to His willingness to stand for us. It is a judgment that brings truth to light and invites us to rely entirely on Him.
This eternal justice of God, which becomes love in Christ, sets us free. It removes the burden of having to put everything right ourselves. We can know that in the end, the fleeting breath does not have the final say, but rather God's faithfulness, which through Christ brings everything to completion in love. This gives us peace for today.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your eternal justice, which You reveal in Christ. It is comforting to know that You will ultimately judge all things, not out of harshness, but out of love. Help me today to live my life in a way that honours You and aligns with Your will. Grant me the assurance that I am secure in Christ, even as I face my faults and weaknesses. May Your Spirit guide me and direct my heart towards You.
