God's Messenger Prepares the Way for the Light
«Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.»

Do not read the Bible in one long run, but passage by passage: one text, unhurried, asking the Holy Spirit for understanding. Whoever tries to swallow everything at once loses the overview. Whoever takes one passage each day will see the whole picture over time.
The connection
What Malachi announced as the promise of a messenger for the coming Lord is fulfilled in John the Baptist. He is the forerunner sent by God, who prepares people's hearts for the arrival of Jesus Christ. The silence between the Testaments is broken by his voice, paving the way for the greatest love.
Reflection
Yesterday, we saw the light of righteousness dawn. Today, we look to the one who announced this light. Malachi speaks of a messenger who will prepare the way before the Lord suddenly comes. This expectation shaped the time before Christ – a period of longing and waiting for God's intervention. It is the promise that God does not remain silent, but has a plan that unfolds.
This messenger is John the Baptist, who came in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn hearts and prepare a people for the Lord. His task was to ready people for Jesus' arrival, to open hearts and to smooth the paths. He was the voice in the wilderness, crying out: 'Make way for the Lord!' He was the transition from the long silence to the loud proclamation of salvation.
In our own lives, too, there are times of silence and waiting. Yet history shows us that God works and prepares during these times. He sends messengers – sometimes people, sometimes circumstances, sometimes simply a deep inner longing – who point us to His presence. Let this message touch you today: God is preparing the way, even for you, even in your present moment.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your faithfulness, which spans all ages. You have not been silent, but have repeatedly sent messengers to proclaim Your love. I thank You for John the Baptist, who prepared the way for Your Son, Jesus. Open my heart today to Your message. Help me to recognise the signs of Your presence and to allow myself to be prepared by You. Let me be an open vessel for what You wish to do in my life. Amen.
