Unto us a Child is Born, Unto us a Son is Given

Let these verses remind you to take your own Bible in your hands, read them there again and, if you wish, continue a little further. Holding God's Word in your hands also gives you a precious moment away from the digital world.
Do not read the Bible in one long run, but passage by passage: one text, unhurried, asking the Holy Spirit for understanding. Whoever tries to swallow everything at once loses the overview. Whoever takes one passage each day will see the whole picture over time.
The connection
What Isaiah proclaimed as a prophetic promise for his people – the birth of a wondrous child with divine attributes – becomes tangible reality in Jesus Christ. The Saviour announced by the Old Testament comes into our world as a human being. His birth is not merely a political event, but the arrival of the long-awaited Prince of Peace, who brings God's reign of love to earth.
Reflection
Yesterday, we reflected on the eternal Word taking on flesh and dwelling among us. Today, we look at the concrete fulfilment of that promise: a child is born. Isaiah describes this child with titles that fill us with awe: Wonderful Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. These titles reveal that there is more to this child than just a human being. It is God Himself, revealing Himself to us in human form.
Luke confirms this ancient prophecy. In the unassuming city of David, in Bethlehem, the Saviour is born. He is not just any leader, but Christ the Lord. This birth, which began so small and humble, is the turning point of history. God does not come as a radiant king on a throne, but as a helpless child, to be close to us and to redeem us. He becomes small so that we might find Him.
What does this mean for you today? It means that God is not distant, but desires to meet you. The Prince of Peace is born to grant you His peace, which surpasses all understanding. The Mighty God is here to carry you in your weaknesses. The Wonderful Counsellor wishes to guide you through your day. Take a moment to receive this truth in your heart: The Saviour is born – for you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for this incredible gift: that You became human to be close to us. You revealed Yourself in a child, the Prince of Peace, the Mighty God. I marvel at Your love and Your humility. Help me to live today in the certainty that You are my Saviour, my Counsellor, and my everlasting hope. May Your peace fill my heart and guide my steps. Amen.

Yesterday, we saw how the eternal Word became flesh. Today, we deepen our understanding that this Word was born as a child, fulfilling the ancient prophecies. Tomorrow, we will look at how the shepherds received this message.
